It is often believed that the Bible has no direct mandate concerning drug abuse, and indeed where the English version, at least concerning our subject is still basically a mediaeval translation this may appear true. However modern lexicography placed together with certain sections of the New Testament and the extra-Biblical Didaché or 'Teaching of the Twelve Apostles' make it quite clear that the Old Testament and the Early Church had a clear teaching concerning drug and substance abuse. The apocryphal Book of Enoch (sometimes called 'The Lost Prophet') also cites drug abuse as a 'dark art' taught to mankind by the fallen angels of Genesis chapter six.
